How did you pick your honeymoon destination?

Just curious to see what people based their decision on: always wanted to go somewhere, price, beach/ski vacation, etc.
For example, we picked Hawaii and Mexico because 1) we’ve always known we’d go to Hawaii 2) we wanted a 2 week honeymoon and would get bored in one place.

We went to the Travel agency and told her that we only had 5 days for our honeymoon and wanted to go somewhere tropical and not overcrowded. She pulled out a catalog for Classic Vacations and showed us the page for El Dorado Seaside Suites in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was an all inclusive resort with gourmet restaurants. Since the resort was halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tuluum, it was about 1/2 mile between resorts. The resort we stayed at was beautiful, the food was outstanding, and the setting was absolutely romantic.

Our personal consierge had screwed up one thing on our first full day there, so I complained to the reception manager. He went out of his way to make it up to us and beyond. Yeah, there’s nothing like complaining to the reception manager and then seeing him every where you look afterwards. It was funny. After the one thing, they really went above and beyond for us. On our last night there, they even prepared a private dinner in the gazebo for us. It was so cool.

For anyone planning their honeymoon, Classic Vacations is EXCELLENT. Their pricing is about the same as Apple Vacations. What makes them different is that they chery pick the best rooms at the best resorts. So, that in itself is good. Our room for example, was one of only about 8 rooms at the entire resort that had a swimming canal right outside the room. We would step from our patio directly into the pool and then go to a private bikini bar that pretty much just serviced the guests from those 8 rooms.

Then you have private transportation to and from the airport. Private as in a sedan with your own driver who is waiting at the airport holding a sign with your name, not that mini van in which your hotel is the last stop on the route. They carry your luggage for you. Classic Vacations also includes several upgrades with their package. After traveling with them, I am never taking another Apple or Sandals vacation again.
